Here you can find out more about my breeding philosophy and plans!
It was never our intention to breed. But sometimes things around you change and then you have to adjust. And I must say I am enjoying every split single second with a litter.
Breeding is something we do for ourselves. Because we think the dogs we let become a parent is that awesome she and he deserve to get offsprings and we would love to welcome one in our family. The parents have to be healthy for mating, great in their looks but absolutely need to be an awesome companion.
When we made the decision to breed and have a litter, it was totally clear for me I wanted to prepare myself for it. So doing the requested tests for the parents to be, a couple of books were bought and read and I signed up for some seminars. Besides that I read on the web and did research on it. And some webshops were very happy with me at that time for being such a good customer. I wanted to have all on stock. Also stuff you hopefully don’t have to use at birth or at premature time. And of course asked lot of info at vet and other breeders. Very thankful that people were willing to help me.
Of course the parents are POAG checked, had their eyes checked (check not older than a year till a certain age of the dog) and besides all regular check ups at the vet, we always let the mom to be extra checked if she is in condition to become a mom.
We breed on a very small scale. And every baby born in our kennel gets its own piece in my heart. And when they leave to their new families they take a part of my heart with them.
In the eight weeks we have to spend with them, we’ll make the most of it. I love my morning coffee drinking beside the whelping box, seeing and hearing the babies drinking at their mom. This is the most amazing sound on the world.
Every single night of this eight weeks I sleep in the living room. The first 3 till 4 weeks right next to the whelping box and later next to the puppypen. Just in case a puppy needs me to handle a nipple or is not laying well or whatsoever. Also the mom really loves it, me being with her. All my dogs are my babies and are used to be around me, so especially at this special time the new mom also needs support. Besides a mom, the mother is and stays a baby as well. So there is no question about it, after giving us puppies the mom always stays with us. All dogs stay with us till their end, just because they are our babies.
When the puppies reach the age of 8 weeks and leaving us, they:
– know all sounds in a living room;
– met and played with our dogs;
– have been outside;
– has been on leash;
– have met people, adults and kids;
– have been checked by vet and vaccinated;
– are dewormed as required;
– have been in a car;
– do eat fresh meat and dry food.
We always want to stay in contact with the puppies and their new families. So when it’s time to say goodbye it’s a goodbye and not farewell. And there will be tears for all emotions.

And then came the day Feliz had her season, the season we would mate her. It is our first litter so all was new and we decided to let her progesterone tested already on day 8 of her season, but is was still very low. She was ready to be mated around day 16. Like a real peeb she was teasing the boys in the house all days before, but on the day she was ready, she didn’t want to do anything with Oscar. But in the end she was mated and she was very okay with it. We were so excited! And those four weeks till we could do the ultrasound went by so so so slow. But finally on October 22nd I had an appointment with her at the vet. First nothing to see. But then at once there was a little nut and when the vet checked the other horn there were two nuts more. So Feliz was pregnant of 3 little peebs. If all would turn out fine and no embryo would be absorbed, Feliz would be a mom of three babies. I can’t describe how happy and excited I was, tears in my eyes and over my cheeks. Good thing I had to wear a mask. Of course we had to share this news immediately with my parents and went for a visit. And some friends were also shared in this such wonderful news.
This would be my first litter. Okay when I was a teenager I was at a delivery of my grandparents dog, but I didn’t had any responsibilities and it was already some years ago. Thankfully friends of my parents are experienced breeders and I had the luck that I could videocall them every single moment. And my aunt would come to help me with the delivery. Besides these wonderful people there were some more great people on distance involved who helped me with all.
On Sunday November 22nd I would prepare all for the delivery. Of course the whelping box was already some weeks in the living room. And in between I looked at my princess and I saw a hollow look in her eyes. So I knew something was going on. And I checked with a friend and she confirmed, this is the beginning of Feliz giving birth. So I started to take her temperature. Normally a bitch who is going to give birth that day will not eat. But you probably already guess, Feliz did eat. She just did eat her normal proportions. During the day I could see it is coming closer. And Feliz selected a stuffed toy. She used it to bite in during her contractions.
And around half past one in the night she had real pressure contractions. But no baby was coming. We had made an X-ray, so we knew the first baby would come probably first with his butt. After 45 minutes we called the vet just to be sure and made the decision to go to the vet. Thankfully our speed was not checked on our way. When we nearly arrived, Feliz screamed and there was her first puppy. The first Cache Royale baby. What a special moment. Immediately checked by vet and back in the car I lay him with his mom to drink. And a few seconds later there was baby number 2 already, born on the parkingplace at the vet. So she was also checked by the vet. And we went back home with two babies, a boy and a girl. And when we were at home after half an hour another boy came into our lives. So happy and thankful all went well, mom and kids were fine and healthy. I was so drunk of love!
Of course these three musketeers needed a name. Our kennelname is Cache Royale, that is an Antillean band. For the first litter I wanted for the puppynames names of songs from the band. They have three songs with a double word, which are: Ding Ding, Sweet Sweet and Fire Fire. Because I knew already I wanted to call the girl Querida, the name Cache Royale Sweet Sweet Querida was born. Querida means sweetheart so it suited so well. The song Sweet Sweet is from Cache Royale together with Ivanhoe Williams and Ir-Sais. So the names were chosen:
? Cache Royale Ding Ding Ir-Sais
♥️ Cache Royale Sweet Sweet Querida
? Cache Royale Fire Fire Ivanhoe
Having the litter was such a party. Loved my morning coffee watching the babies drinking at their mommy. And every day you see the development with the babies. You see them growing day by day and exploring the world. And it is so wonderful to see what they have from their mom or dad. Or that you see something they take over from another dog in the house.
Feliz is the most incredible mommy. She is totally fine when people are coming. Of course she first looks at me if I am fine with it. Also she allowed me always to take care of her babies or to help her. Feliz is a very modern mommy, she loved and still loves her babies to bits, but also loved to have some Feliz time. Often when you had a baby on your lap she came next to you to watch and after her walks she went to her babies to count if all were there.
We were already sure one baby would stay, but pretty soon we decided to keep two. So one baby was available. Many people asked for a puppy. Also the family where Ir-Sais is living. With these people I had immediately a good feeling. The baby would not be their dog, but their child. And he lives the best life. I am his family very thankful for giving him this life.
