Living with a pack of peebs looks for the average people a crazy life and for a few it looks like a dream. For me it is living the dream, okay every dream has sometimes a challenge. But I really do love it.
Peebs are packdogs, so they love to live in packs. In a good pack the dogs also correct eachother and the older dogs help you to raise the younger ones. They love the company from one another. So when you have to leave the house, they are never alone.
My dogs are for me my everything, they are my babies, my friends, my companions, my best medicine and my best fysical therapists. Did you know that, when you like dogs, your blood pressure drops and muscles get less tensed only by watching and cuddling a dog? They also not only warm your heart but also your feet and bed when it’s necessary. They also do when it’s not necessary, but that’s part of the deal.
My dogs are quite calm in house, except when visit is entering. Then they are very enthusiastic and let everyone know who wants to know or not. But I am fine with that. They can show their feelings. Also during playtime you can hear them, but that is also okay. Kids also talk and scream when they play. But besides that they are pretty calm because they get a lot of exercise. That is something they really need. Before breakfast I have already walked about 2,5 kilometers and cycled 3 kilometers. So we all start the day healthy in the fresh air. My boys like to walk next to the bike. I think because we go to other places and I only take one dog when I go by bike. Especially Oscar is going crazy when he gets on his harness for the bikeride, the boy is the oldest and has been an only baby for some time.
So he still loves to do things alone with me. The girls have more hunting blood, so cycling with them is not the most clever thing to do. They use the treadmill. These clever girls know they get treats afterwards, so most times one of them is already on the treadmill when I put it on. Feliz is so food driven that learning her tricks is really easy to do. And she is loving it. She even can walk on my feet, so proud of her. Oscar saw there were treats involved so most times he now enjoys us during trick times.
We live in the northern part of the Netherlands, so we are lucky with the nature. In and around our village there are many places to walk.
And when we drive about 15 minutes we have the most beautiful wood to walk with them, there is even a small place for them to swim. Oscar, Querida and Feliz are able there to be off leash and take a dive. And when we drive about 25 minutes we are on the beach. A beach with sweet water. What even more do you wish for your beloved fourlegged babies. So I feel very lucky to be able to go to these places.
The dogs are really my family so they are involved in every part of my daily life. When we go to the market some dogs will join me. And they are well known faces in the village. When I walk with a dog or some dogs, people always say something.
And when those people see me without a dog, they hardly recognize me. When I go for a visit to my parents they all will be loaded up in the car and we visit them all together.
Holidays we only take when we can bring the dogs. No dogs, no holiday. Sometimes we combine a holiday with a dogshow. Besides all this we take part on some dogshows, this are just a couple of days a year. But we love it. You can read about this in an separate item.
Of course our daily life also involves grooming and feeding. We feed all our dogs dry food and fresh meat. They all get crazy when it is time for fresh meat, they love it. I think the combination of dry food and fresh meat is very good one and very handy. When you can’t take fresh meat, the dogs are already used to dry food. And when they need a bit more food, it is very easy to feed more fresh meat.
Brushing the dogs is a weekly routine. Just like checking and maintaining the ears. The grooming depends on the dogs hair, if the dog is going to shows and part of the year. Average I groom them all once in 5 weeks each.
So you can see this amazing breed turned my life upside down, but I love it. Without them it would be completely different and less fun.
